A smiling man with tattoos on his arms, wearing a green button-up shirt and black jeans, sitting on a light blue chair in a room with white walls. A small round white table beside him holds a potted flower and a framed quote.

Cody Helgesen, LPC

Cody (they/them) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Clinical Supervisor who works with youth, young adults, and adults, as well as couples and families. They are passionate about creating a therapeutic space where clients feel seen, heard, respected, and empowered to explore meaningful change. Cody has extensive experience supporting LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients and brings a collaborative, humanistic, and strengths-based perspective to their work.

Cody works with clients navigating neurodivergence, LGBTQIA+ experiences, trauma, career and college concerns, and life transitions. They recognize that each person’s experiences, identity, relationships, and environment can shape how they understand themselves and the challenges they face. Cody works collaboratively with clients to explore these experiences and identify paths forward that feel authentic and achievable.

In their clinical work, Cody draws from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, Gestalt approaches, psychodrama, and other post-modern approaches. They tailor their work to each client rather than relying on a single approach, with an emphasis on collaboration, strengths, and the individual’s own goals and perspective.

Cody believes therapy can be a space to explore identity, relationships, patterns, and possibilities while developing new ways of living and relating. They meet clients where they are and work alongside them to create meaningful and sustainable change.

Cody is currently a doctoral candidate (Ed.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision at Southern Connecticut State University, where they also earned their M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. They completed a double major in Psychological Science and Human Development and Family Sciences at the University of Connecticut.

As a Clinical Supervisor, Cody also supports developing clinicians as they grow their clinical skills, confidence, and professional identity. They value collaboration, reflection, and continued learning as important parts of professional development.
